I am a 3rd grade teacher in French Immersion who had a stroke (cardiovascular accident). I'm writing this story because
I'm Anatole and I want to teach children that with courage, mindfulness and an open mind, you can conquer everything!
I wrote a children’s book to explain the story
of my stroke. It’s the story of a bird who had
an accident. He couldn’t sing and he couldn’t move. With friendship, mindfulness and growth mindset he realized that nothing is impossible.
Here I am posing for a picture.
Anatole, written and illustrated by French Immersion teacher Natalie Perrier is an enchanting tale that follows the journey of a resilient bird who, despite facing adversity, discovers the incredible power of a growth mindset and positive thinking.
The author Natalie Perrier, who herself embodies the spirit of Anatole, recently visited our classroom, leaving a lasting impression on my students. Her personal account of courage and determination resonated deeply with the kids, and we continue to draw inspiration from her valuable insights.
This book is an excellent story in its ability to convey profound concepts in a language that children can easily grasp, especially in a French Immersion classroom where French is a second language.
An added gem to this book is the stunning artwork by Natalie Perrier, who created the illustrations with her non-dominant hand due to her medical injury. The illustrations bring Anatole's tale to life in a unique and visually engaging way.
" Anatole" goes beyond being just a book; it's a practical guide for fostering a growth mindset and resilience in the face of challenges. Our class frequently refers to the techniques in the book for positive thinking and the triangle breathing strategy to help calm stressful moments. This makes it an important resource for both educators and students alike.
This is such a great book, and we were so fortunate to have had the opportunity to have Natalie come to the classroom and read the story. We learned so much from her and we all loved the story of Anatole.
I am so incredibly proud of my best friend for not only overcoming the challenges of a stroke but also for sharing her story and insights onmindfulness and empowerment in her book. Her resilience and
determination to regain her abilities and autonomy are truly inspiring.Bravo Natalie!
We would love to hear from you!
